Scientific Name: Echinochloa crus-galli (L.) Beauv.
Family Name: Poaceae (Graminae) - Grass Family

Identification Notes:

life cycle - annual, reproducing by seed

culms - upright, somewhat thick, smooth, flattened, often reddish-purple growth habit, seedlings

leaves - blades smooth, conspicuous white mid-rib, margins sometimes wavy, rolled in bud; ligule absent; sheaths smooth, flattened, open, reddish purple ligules absent 1, ligules absent 2

seedheads - panicle, straight or upward spreading branches, green to purple, spikelets compact on branches and bristled seedheads 1, seedheads 2, seedheads 3
