Identification Notes:

life cycle - native perennial, reproducing by seed and rootstocks

stems – upright, slender, smooth, sometimes sparse hairs near base, branched above
leaves – alternate, lanceolate to oblong-lanceolate, smooth, slightly toothed, basal leaves withering by flowering time growth habit 1, growth habit 2, growth habit 3

leaves – alternate, lanceolate to oblong-lanceolate, smooth, slightly toothed, basal leaves withering by flowering time leaves 1, leaves 2

flowers – heads of yellow ray (ligulate) florets; panicles above, slender, open spreading or drooping, leafy flowers 1, flowers 2
