Scientific Name: Silene alba (Mill.) E.H.L. Krause, syn. Lychnis alba
Family Name: Caryophyllaceae - Pink Family

Identification Notes:

life cycle - perennial, reproducing by seed and occasionally by rootstocks

stems - upright, branching, pubescent growth habit 1, growth habit 2, growth habit 3

leaves - opposite, ovate-lanceolate, pubescent, margined petioles below, sessile above leaf rosette

flowers - 5-petaled, white to sometime pinkish, "bladder -like"; petals notched; male and female on separate plants; calyx inflated, hairy, prominently veins (10 male or 20 female); open in evening; stalked and axillary flowers 1, flowers 2, inflated calyx 1, inflated calyx 2
